Nothing has shook my world as much as the death of my dog, Sam, in 2019. He totally changed my life while he was alive, and he changed it, again, in his death. It was the greatest pain I have ever experienced in my adult life.
I knew I wanted to help those people through that roller-coaster ride of emotions and journey of pain and grief. So, I read everything I could and researched the subject of pet loss grief.ad nauseum. I read over twenty (20) books and became a certified pet loss grief recovery counselor. I even enrolled in the Interfaith Pet Loss Grief Counselling program at Emerson Institute of Theology.
As a pet loss grief counselor, I have spent many hours with pet loss parents and their family of loved ones during these horribly painful times. I am familiar with the journey. It can be an emotionally challenging time, often affecting physical, mental, and emotional well-being.
When I lost my beloved dog and best friend, Sam, in 2019, it was a very painful and emotional time. Sam and I shared a special and loving bond with each other that I didn't know existed before I met Sam. And I wanted to create a music video in his remembrance, as a memorial, as a celebration of his life. It took nine months before I could do it. I tried looking through pictures and videos and thinking about the memories we made together, but I couldn't for a long time. The pain was unbearable.
I finally wrote a song about Sam called "I'll Help You Write Your Song." and later prepared a music video. Kind of uncanny. Now I want to help you write your song.
Many pet loss counselors and therapists agree that the act of memorializing a beloved pet is a vital and beneficial way to deal with our loss. Creative coping is a term used to describe a mechanism that can help us move through this journey more effectively and may include drawing painting, writing, and photography.
